10 สำนวนการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษที่ทุกคนควรทราบ
สวัสดีครับ นักศึกษาทุกคน วันนี้ผมมีประเด็นที่น่าสนใจ ให้ทุกคนมาฝึกภาษาอังกฤษกัน โดยผมจะนำคลิป การบรรบายภาษาอังกฤษ โดย อ.ฝรั่ง จากยูทูป ซึ่งคลิปมีความยาว 11 นาที โดยในคลิปนั้น จะพูดถึง สำนวนการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษ 10 สำนวนด้วยกัน ให้นักศึกษาตั้งใจฟัง เพื่อเป็นการฝึกทักษะการฟังภาษาอังกฤษไปด้วยครับ
นอกจากนี้ผมก็ได้ลงคำบรรยายจากคลิปที่เป็นภาษาอังกฤษ และแปลประโยคต่อประโยค ซึ่งประโยคเหล่านั้น นักศึกษาสามารถจำไปใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันได้เลยครับ เพราะผมไม่ได้แปลจาก google นะครับ (แปลตามความรู้สึกของรีเบกก้าล้วนๆ 555)
สุดท้ายหลังจากที่นักศึกษาได้ฟังคลิปจบแล้ว ผมก็จะมี คำถาม(Quiz) เพื่อให้นักศึกษาประเมินตัวเองว่า เรามีความเข้าใจคำบรรยายจากคลิป มากน้อยแค่ไหน พร้อมมีคำเฉลยให้ หากเราทำข้อไหนผิด ก็ให้กลับมาฟังคลิปดูซ้ำอีกรอบนะครับ

In this lesson, you're going to learn 10 lovely English expressions that you might be hearing all around you, every day.
(ในบทนี้ นักเรียนจะได้เรียนถึงสำนวนในภาษาอังกฤษ 10 สำนวน ที่แสนจะฟังดูน่ารัก ที่คุณๆ อาจจะได้ยินเค้าพูดกันรอบๆ ตัวคุณ ในทุกๆ วันก็ว่าได้เลยค่ะ)
These are really common expressions, so I want to make sure that you know them so that
you understand what people are saying; and also, once you're really sure of the meaning, you can also start to use them yourself.

Now, the other thing is that they're really short; each of them...

The ones I've chosen, here, only have three words, so they're also really short and easy to say.

And there are no complicated long words to pronounce or anything like that.

Number one is the expression: "Good for you." (เบอร์ 1 ก็คือ "Good for you."
So, the way that I said it, (ตามที่เดื้ยนพูดมานั่นแหละค่ะ)
what do you think it means?(หนูคิดว่ามันหมายความว่าอะไรคะ)
Well, what it means is that somebody gives you some good news, like: "Oh, guess what?
(อืม ความหมายก็คือว่า เมื่อใครบางคนมาบอกข่าวดีให้คุณรู้ ประมาณมาบอกว่า "โอ้ ทายซิอะไร"
Rebecca, I passed my IELTS exam on the first try."

So what would I say to that student?
(เอ้า ซวยล่ะทีนี้ ครูจะบอกกับนักเรียนคนนั้นว่ากระไดดีหล่ะ)
"Good for you. Wow, you did it. Amazing."
(เยี่ยมไปเลย ลูกศิษย์ครู เว้า เธอทำได้แล้ว ช่างมหัศจรรย์จริงๆ)
Or someone tells you: "Hey, I got the job. I didn't... I can't believe it."

And I was like: "Good for you. You know? You tried, you did it; you succeeded. Good for you."

All right, so what does: "Keep me posted" mean? (เอาหล่ะ Keep me posted หมายความว่าอะไร)
You have the word "post" here, but don't worry about that; it has nothing to do with mailing letters or anything like that.
(คุณใช้คำว่า "ส่งจดหมาย" ในที่นี้ แต่คุณอย่ากังวัลถึงเรื่องนั้นค่ะ มันไม่ใช่ไปส่งจดหมายที่ไปรษณีย์หรืออะไรประมาณนั้นนะคะ)
"Keep me posted" means that there's a situation and you want someone to keep...
(Keep me posted หมายความว่า มีสถานการณ์หนึ่ง และคุณต้องการให้ใครบางคนช่วยดูแล...)
Give you updates; to keep you updated on what the latest news is or what has happened.
(ให้ทำการอัพเดทให้คุณ คอยอัพเดทให้คุณสิ่งที่เป็นข่าวสารล่าสุด หรือ สิ่งที่ได้เกิดขึ้น ค่ะ)
So, for example, let's suppose that someone is in the hospital and they are...

The doctor is giving them news every few hours to tell them what's happening, so you are not there but you want to know.

You care and you want to know what's happening, so you tell the person in the hospital: "Keep me posted."

And you will hear this expression in regular situations, like the one I described, and very often at work.

"Sleep on it? Sleep on what?" ("Sleep on it? นอนบนอะไร?") จะนอนอะไรกันนักกันหนาคะนักเรียน
Okay.
So, what this means is: Don't decide something right away.
(เอาหล่ะ สิ่งที่หมายถึง คือ อย่าเพิ่งตัดสินใจบางสิ่งโดยทันที)

Take some time to decide, take some time to maybe sleep at night and think about something quietly, and don't be in a rush to decide anything.

Don't be in a rush; don't be in a hurry to make up your mind, or make an important decision or choice.

Say: "I don't know.
I have this job offer, I have that job offer; I've got to let them know.

I don't know what to do." If somebody's in that situation, so you can say to them, what?

Sometimes people get very anxious, but you can tell them...
It's another way of saying: "Take some time to decide".

One is when somebody's getting angry and upset: "Hey. What do you mean? How...? How can you say that to me? What do you mean?"

So that's how it's...One very common way in which it's used-okay?-when somebody's getting excited and worked up, and you're afraid that something worse is going to happen or some violence is going
to follow, you say: "Hey, relax. Take it easy."

Next: "All is well". (สำนวนถัดมา คือ "All is well")

That's another way of saying: "Everything's okay. (สำนวนที่จะบอกว่า " ทุกอย่างเรียบร้อยดี)
Everything's fine."(ทุกอย่างเรียบร้อยดี)
Sometimes when we write to someone, we say: "Hope all is well."
(บางครั้งเมื่อเราเขียนถึงคนบางคน เราก็บอกว่า Hope all is well = หวังว่าทุกอย่างคงเรียบร้อย)
Okay?(โอเคนะคะ)
Means: I hope everything in general in your life is going well.
(หมายถึง ฉันหวังว่าทุกๆสิ่งในชีวิตของคุณจะดำเนินไปได้ด้วยดี)
And you can also answer that: "Yes, all is well. All is well."
(และคุณสามารถตอบลับไปด้วยได้ว่า "ค่ะ ทุกอย่างเรียบร้อยดี"

Everything is fine; everything is okay.(ทุกอย่างไปได้ดี ทุกอย่างไม่มีปัญหา)
It doesn't mean every single detail, but over all, all is well.

You know how sometimes someone who has had a bad experience and maybe they...?

They tried for a job or they tried to pass an exam and they didn't succeed, and they
start getting into a very negative state, and they say: "I'm never going to pass this exam.

And you want to turn that energy around, and you want to give them some positive energy
and a positive way to look at life, and so you say to them: "Never say never.
You never know what can happen."

So let's say somebody had a bad day at work or somebody's complaining about all the traffic
that they had to go through; they were stuck in traffic for two hours, and this happened

That's a really nice expression. (สำนวนนี้ดีมากจริงๆ ค่ะ)
It's used in lots of contexts. (นำไปใช้หลายๆ บริบท)
So, this is when someone that you know, it could be someone in your personal life, it could be somebody in your professional life, and somebody that you... Let's say it was a neighbour.
